“When I think that contemporary art, produced in replica, can be sold for millions of dollars, I’m amazed. Local artisans are so talented, every piece is unique. From the material research, dye and fabrication to its pure sense of color and composition, Mexican style is a delightful relief from the drab “apartment” grey aesthetic that is so hip today.”
About us
Created by Giuli Cordara, Kaahal Home Tulum was inspired by her passion and admiration for the astonishing work of artisans in Mexico. Her beautiful, charming oasis of calm and creativity seeks to counteract the ubiquitous label that says “Made in China”. At Kaahal Home Tulum one can bask in organic, essential, ancient and modern expressions of Mexican art forms.
Giuli, a native of Italy and well known in New York City for creating the success of many international contemporary artist exhibitions, among them Gregory Colbert’s “Ashes & Snow”, bought a piece of land in Tulum many years ago after falling in love with the land and its people. While undertaking production of art exhibitions in the US and Europe she nourished a fantasy of opening a home decor shop in Tulum that would allow her to express her own personal sense of style while promoting the Mexican art to which she was naturally attracted. The store is open now in Tulum village – a dream come true and a boon to locals who can now enjoy access to an outstanding array of beautiful Mexican-made art for the home.
Ironically, most Mexican artesanía may as well be produced in China. Local artisans are forced to use cheap materials and synthetic fibers to compete with the Chinese production. The planet is being suffocated by cheap plastic products at the very moment we need, more than ever, a revival of the arts and crafts that lend meaning to our lives.

To visitors to her new haven of hand made goods, Giuli says, “Welcome home!”

A place where energies become synergies
Last August, when I came up with the idea to open a home décor shop, I actually had a very vague idea of how to do it. My daughter Cecilia was firm of coming with me through my trip in Mexico to meet different suppliers. We had a wonderful journey traveling in Mexico, meeting amazing people, laughing a lot, eating delicious food and driving throughout beautiful landscapes; until one day Kaahal Home became a reality.
